Here are a list of my favorite non-profit organizations and what they do:
Mission: "To create lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and social injustice."
Recent Issues: Haiti, climate change legislation, Darfur
2. Doctors Without Borders (http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/)
Mission: "An international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care."
Recent Issues: Providing medical assistance to victims of China's earthquake, opening treatment center in eastern Sudan.
3. Action Against Hunger (http://www.actionagainsthunger.org/)
Mission: "Providing innovative solutions to world hunger."
Recent Issues: Hunger in Niger, Southern Sudan, and Uganda. Providing clean water for Africans and teaching alternatives from poor agriculture and foreign reliance on food to sustainable farming.
